OCCURANCE Found in oils of flowers of Boronia megastigma, in violet moss and in oil of costus root. ODOUR Floral odour, Primarily of a violet character. COLOR & APPEARANCE Light yellow to almost colourless liquid. STABILITY & DISCOLORATION Stable, not known to cause discoloration. REFRACTIVE INDEX AT 20?/sup>C 1.497 ?1.501 SPECIFIC GRAVITY AT 25?/sup>C -- SOLUBILITY Clearly soluble in 3 parts of 70% alcohol Ionones are extensively used in violet compounds in very large amounts, as well as in floral bouquets. It is used in Pharmaceutical and Chemical Syntehsis. Ionone is an almost colourless product.
